It will automatically stir for five minutes every hour and an optional one minute stir at random. But you can change the stirring timing to every half hour. This also comes with two attachments. The black attachment is for general stirring such as soup, dips, and chowders. The metal wire works best for hearty stews, stroganoffs, and other thicker recipes
